Best software to use for vhs to dvd

What is the best software to use for Windows XP for putting VHS/mini-dv tapes onto a computer?

Then what is the best software for putting those video files onto a dvd?

(Must be free)

What I use is a DVD recorder. I found digitizing, editing on the PC to take far too long. Try the software that comes with your new tv capture card first.

I guess i will be using the Sony DVgate then.

Will a 2 hour vhs tape fit onto a single layer dvd? (4.3gb)

But some discover their setups don't get 2 hours. Here I find I can get 2 hours but this can be machine or device specific.

I did a clean install of Windows XP, so Sony DVgate isn't there and isn't redownloadable.

Know any 3rd party software?

Sony DVgate can help you.
