I am doing tech support for seniors in a retirement village. I have several people using Windows 7 who have had Malwarebytes and other perfectly legit virus detector software, the free versions, installed on their computer by my predecessor. These people do not bank on line and do not want to put their credit card online. Their computer usage is limited to email and surfing the net. They have been so spooked about not downloading anything that they are scared of the messages to upgrade to the "premium" versions of malware bytes etc. Will they be safe if I remove those programs but make sure that Windows Defender runs regularly and is updated regularly?
(my PC expertise is a bit rusty; I use a mac myself where the problem of PUPs and viruses isn't nearly so pervasive.)
