Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Update Advisory - February 2013

Note: The original Critical Patch Update for Java SE - February 2013 was scheduled to be released on February 19th, but Oracle decided to accelerate the release of this Critical Patch Update because active exploitation "in the wild" of one of the vulnerabilities affecting the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in desktop browsers, was addressed with this Critical Patch Update.

Re: Java 7 Update 13 and Java 6 to Update 39

• For those with a need for Java, Oracle strongly recommends all Java 7 users upgrade to this release as soon as possible. They also recommend all Java SE 6 users upgrade to Java SE 6 Update 39 or Java SE 7 Update 13. This is the final update for Java 6 which has reached End-of-life.

• As has been noted in the past, Java can be disabled in your web browser, when and if needed. Or by using a dual browser approach, where Java is unplugged from the browser most often used, and left plugged in a second browser dedicated for sites which require Java.
