Is anyone who has Avast anti-virus software experiencing any problems updating it? When I tried to update it today I kept getting an HTTP: Error 404 code message. What does that mean?

Avast! has now resolved the update issue for millions of Avast! users. It was said that these update problems arose due to infrastructure issues within Avast! or in the network, so none of this was the user's doing or fault. It was basically a server-based error, and a fix now has been pushed out to the world.

At one point, Singapore, Canada, Czech, and others users elsewhere reported the 404 error, causing a little bit of a panic among users over at the Avast! forum. Some parts of the world were not affected by this error.

Avast! team members do extend their apologies for any kind or sort of worry or inconvenience this most likely did cause for their current subscribers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_404 tells it means that the server at Avast! can't find a page. Most likely a server error. I didn't see it yet, today, but maybe I use a different server than you.

I'd wait until they fix it. If it stays the same for a few days, you'll probably read about it here. Or post again then. Or contact them.
