Regarding MVPS Hosts File

I have been using this hosts file for some time without no apparent problems. I recently noticed that a number of sites were taking some time to "load" up. Remembering that "MVPS" suggests that the DNS client be reset to "manual" I did just that. Than I lost my internet connection. Resetting DNS back to automatic, I got the internet back. Did this twice. The only thing that has changed "recently" is that I now have Time Warner Cable for my "phone" service as well. Before I had AT&T for my phone, obviously on a different "line". So I now have a new modem box for the phone and the "internet" together.

Any suggestions. Dell computer, Windows XP Pro, SP3, all updates, no other problems. Run regular 'scans' with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Some Networks Don't Work Well With "DNS Client" Disabled

AT&T is a telephone line... Time Warner is Cable.. It can make a difference.

In your case, if your new cable network needs the DNS Client service enabled to allow internet connection, then you'll need to do so.. Unfortunately, with both a large HOSTS file and DNS Client enabled, you may have a real problem with the "slows". It may cause the computer to creep along at an unbearably slow pace . You may need to find a different ad-blocker for your system, or a much smaller HOSTS file, if the computer's performance suffers greatly.

I had a similar problem on a large government network, when using Windows 7, and I was unable to use a large HOSTS file on certain computers.

Reinstalled original 'hosts' file and now trying to find the best free ad blocker for my ie8 system. I know Firefox or Google Chrome are probably better but I've gotten used to ie8.

You had.
TW internet service.
Telco phone service.
Everything worked fine.

You now have.
TW internet and phone service.
The internet is borked.
I doubt this is a Hosts issue.
I'd call TW.

Hosts issue?

Thanks for replying Bob. I installed AdBlock Pro and the computer seems to open up web sites faster and gets rid of all the "open" spaces that the MVPS hosts file created when it blocked "ad's". So, to me, the issue is resolved and its even better then at anytime before.
