Just an idea. A recent post had a member complaining of lockups and while I didn't nail it directly it was an out of date BIOS and their SSD drive. It was a confuser because they didn't tell what else caused a lockup but in the end it was "another one of the usual SSD problems."

Now, given how Russ approached that, do you have folk around you that do such work?

But it did have a BIOS issue and since HP can't fix BIOS issues the end result was a dead laptop at their hands.

I did everything they asked and spent 14+ hours on the phone, shipped it in, have paperwork saying they duplicated the issue and for my efforts I ended up with a dead laptop at 3 months old.

-> So is this the Insyde BIOS on that HP? Could be the same bug but I strongly advise you not to let HP near the machine. I lost a laptop over this one. They walked and after that, this is what I'll do. Share the story when it comes up.

It's a shame HP has come to this low a level of a company.

If you had posted your model number I could have checked the specs but you can do that too.

This is very strange.
I contacted Cleverbridge customer service
and the emailed me a license (which is different)
That I purchased last year.
I can now Enable the protection on Malwarebytes but
there is just one problem.
My computer still locks up if I have Malwarebytes
start with Windows.
If I boot up Windows then enable the protection
Malwarebytes works fine and doesn't cause problems.

But it was doing that NEW. All I had to do was plug in any USB memory stick and wait. After HP's repairs the wait time was reduced to 5 minutes.

Be sure to see if you see any mention of the Insyde BIOS.

As to the SSD why not use something like Device Manager to see what hard drives you have then google those models?

For the BIOS what little I read points to other bios makes HOWEVER there are discussions about USB issues in some linux distros. Which is sad to read because that's where my HP was broke.

And I mean broke as in a bios or chipset issue that would not be fixed by replacement with another new laptop of the same make and model.

That removes my bad make of BIOS (or rather buggy) so you have to decide if the folk in the world of Linux are onto something.

And it would without fail lockup daily. In that machine I updated the BIOS and it helped, but still once in a while lock up. About a year later I checked back and it turned out the HDD firmware had been issued an update.

Shocker as I rarely saw that sort of update in consumer gear.

In your case it's an interesting issue of "it hurts when I do this" so the old Doc reply seems best. I am more than a little leery of HP products today after they killed a laptop in their repair system and walked away but up to that point I had no big issues with that company.
