Web Tracking Question

I would like to know how and who is tracking my online activity so that when I go to any web page, items I have recently viewed at online shopping sites appear as ads on those pages. This REALLY infuriates me and I want to know how to prevent it.

Everybody tracks you.

The 3 things you can do about it:
1. Browse in private mode only.
2. Delete all your cookies regularly.
3. Set the 'Do not track' option in your browser

As Kees concisely put it - everything tracks you. "How you can be tracked online" explains in detail how websites track you by looking at cookies, IP addresses, web Bugs, your browsing history, among other techniques.

Albine (who wrote the above) is the creator of Do Not Track Plus. It's one of a few tools included in Everyone's Trying to Track What You Do on the Web: Here's How to Stop Them"

IF you should decide to make use of Do Not Track Plus, read their FAQ. Specifically the 3rd question which asks, "Why do I see more cookies added to my browser?" It's been discussed / questioned at various forums. I thought it might be something you should be aware of. (Also see "How Our Opt-Out Cookies Work")
