Spyware, viruses, & security forum: Unable to get latest Windows Update

Do you have a link to get KB2627753? I just tried it all again, and still showing failed. If I get the KB2627753 installed, am I to guess maybe the others will go on? Will Microsoft come out eventually with a fix for it all?

Simply type the Knowledgebase numbers into Google, one at a time, (For example, type: KB2731847 into Google and one of the first links is THIS ONE and you should be able to find a link to Microsoft's download page for each update..

As to KB2627753, I find it's no longer available so if you're using Automatic Updates, access the custom installation process and simply "hide" that particular update.. The missing update may be freezing things and hiding that bad update It may release all the other updates so they can then install correctly.

Of course, you could simply visit the Windows Update website and allow the website to scan the computer and install them.

I installed 17 updates (7 for Office) using Windows Update without a problem about 2 hours ago. There was no KB2627753 listed but there was a KB2647753.

Hi Miki -- thanks for pointing that out -- it was a typo on my part. However, that one in particular must have been the culprit. I hid that particular one and tried again and they all went on. I went back in and then picked up the culprit and it went on. So, all I needed was to come to cnet and get the help I needed. What would we do without cnet and its mods!!

Thanks for your post Mike. It's been years ago now when I started using cnet, but between Grif, Toni (don't know if she's still around), Randy, Bob, Carol, Ed, and many others along the way have helped me out of bad situations. They've always been so willing to come to the aid and complete a rescue mission (LOL).

Now a days I don't have many issues as between cnet, and volunteering for our local computer club, I have learned so much over time and remember most of it -- and I have an archive I've created and refer to it from time to time. For about 7 years I helped teach computer classes for our local club -- until my hearing got so bad I didn't do well in a classroom environment. However, I do continue to help with their bi-monthly open house help clinics they open up to the public. It's fun and challenging for me and keeps me on my toes. I'Ve often referred cnet to people and hopefully they've gained some members over the years.

When I first started with cnet I was afraid to ask a question, then someone posted, a dumb question is one never asked, so it went from there. I read posts and learned from that long before I ever started posting. Once I did, I found it wasn't so hard afterall (LOL). Anyway, I can't thank cnet enough for being here 24/7 and just glad I found them. Funny thing is, how I found them was doing a search years ago for "computer help." There they were in the list and I've been in and out since.

I do, however, help folks in my building when they have computer problems. There are times when the techs who fix their computers cannot come immediately and ask me to diagnose. Often, they are things I can fix.

Never been afraid to ask dumb questions....actually, I am quite good at it. Also, guilty of after figuring out how to fix a problem, coming to Cnet for reassurance from a Mod before doing anything.

You wrote a lovely well-deserved post endorsing Cnet, and I am sure the staff is most appreciative. That said, this has been my favorite forum over the years.

It was correct in the post I removed. From thereon in I copied Julea's typo, only looking at the "53" at the end.

@ Julea. I'm glad to see all is straightened out.

FWIW: Microsoft apparently fixed it the evening of the 14th. Ensuing problems came about as a result of the first version of the faulty update.

So sorry about that type, but somehow guess that's how it zeroed in on the culprit for me (LOL). Typos are bad, and I'm not nearly the typist I once was (LOL) -- computers ruined me! Thanks for all your help now and in the past too. Have a nice day.

When I used Windows Update, although the number was different, I downloaded KB2647753 separately as recommended in your post......that might be why I did not run into any problems.
