Spyware, viruses, & security forum: Trojans from CNET ad links

I'm not quite sure I'm understanding what transpired. But I did go to some of CNET's download pages for various flv viewers. After disabling Adblock Plus, a few ads at "FreeDownloads.us.com" appeared. I'm unable to find where a site named down-free.com exists.

Would you be so kind as to provide a link to the CNET Download.com page, where you experienced a problem?

Again, I'm unclear. Did you visit a CNET download page to download an flv viewer, but instead of clicking on the CNET download link, you clicked on an ad for one instead? And that's when your A/V alerted you?

I looked at the page source for "download-free" as well without finding it.

This leads me to worry that your machine has malware or some other issue. Here's Grif's usual scanners for those.

then I did get it from cnet, so this tells me that cnet's ad links are not to be trusted.

thanks Bob, that was all I was looking at, sites like cnet, yahoo, google, are in it just for the buck - scammers / trojan / malware is ok as long as the $$$ get paid ....

and yes my system is protected that is why I was able to stop it. 24 yrs on the net, you do pick one a thing or two.
