Which anti-virus do you suggest?

Hi

I have a laptop by HP, compaq nx 6110, intel(R) celeron M, processor 1.40 GHz, 504MB. As you can see it's not the fastest/ newest laptop. I have it for about 6 years I think. Now I was wondering which anti-virus should I use, because many anti-virus that I install slow my laptop to much down and others (like microsoft essentials) really aren't that good at protecting your computer. Anybody idea for an anti-virus that's not too heavy but still does a good job (suggestions for free and paying anti-viruses are welcome).

only slightly more powerful than yours. I am running XPSP3 with free avast and WinPatrol free running all the time and it works fine.. I also have MBAM and SUPERantispyware but only as on demand scanners. Just a suggestion. Different things work for different people and setups though. The best protection is the user and safe surfing.

Norton Internet Security 2012 is also good
