How to get rid of .exe viruses?

by pd1dish - 11/22/11 11:02 AM

Hi everyone, im having a lot of problems with my laptop lately and Ive searched around the web and nothing has really helped me yet so I decided to post my specific issue. It all started when I turned on my computer a couple of days ago. I have Windows Vista and after I typed in my password to access the Owner account, my laptop will stay on the welcome screen for at least 30 minutes. Then, the screen will go black. If I leave it untouched, it will eventually load my desktop (all in all it takes about an hour and a half to boot my computer). Finally, once all of my startup programs are loaded, I can use my computer, but thats not where the problems end.

Even when I am using my computer, my CPU usage will keep spiking and sometimes causing me to completely freeze. Other times I can let it sit there and eventually whatever program I am using becomes responsive again.

I pulled up my Windows Task Manager and there are many fishy processes being run, such as:

-2 instances of csrss.exe
-3 instances of rundll32.exe (at the very moment i was typing this, 4 more popped up in my processes giving a total of 7)
-2 instances of rundll32.exe *32
-12 (yes twelve) instances of svchost.exe
-in total I have 74 processes running (give or take 10 depending on when i look at the task manager, which is about 30-40 more than what im used to seeing in my task manager.

Ive tried a few different things to try and fix this and have yet to have positive results. First, I ran Spybot S&D and it found 123 entries that needed to be removed, which I did so. Then, I ran a full McAfee virus scan and it found NOTHING which is ridiculous because at that point, my computer is still moving slow and starting up slow. I then download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware because I had this problem about 2 years ago and it completely fixed it for me. So after I ran a full scan in MBAW, it also found NOTHING. I wondered how this could be so I made sure I updated everything. MBAM was actually 86 out of date, so I successfully updated it and ran another full scan. Results were once again nothing. I then ran Spybot: S&D again and it found 13 more problems that needed to be fixed. All of which are tracking cookies from Google Chrome (DoubleClick, FastClick, MediaPlex, WebTrendsLive are some of the cookies that were removed).

I also tried doing this manually but for every process (.exe) i search in google, there is a virus for it and a different way to remove it and i simply dont have the time to do all the manual work.

If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Im not really sure why MWAB isnt picking up any issues but if there is another trustworthy program (preferably free) that anyone thinks can work better please let me know. And if you guys need any other information, please let me know.
