Avira and Compatibility with Ad-Aware

When I tried to install the new free version of Avira it indicated that Ad-Aware was not compatible and that I should uninstall it. Avira would not install until I uninstalled Ad-Aware. Now that I have Avira installed can I go ahead and install Ad-Aware or is there another program that is similar to Ad-Aware that I can install in its place? Any help would be much appreciated.

Because Ad-Aware runs a background service, it will conflict with Avira.. Note that Avira already has some amount of spyware detection ability and it's possible to configure it so it scans for all kinds of things..

On systems with Avira installed, we install on-demand scanners such as the free versions of Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. Both are better at detecting malware than Ad-Aware and they don't need to run background services, but you will be required to manually run scans when you want to check for malware.
