fimserve.com and variants

I need advice on how to resolve an issue that may be related to spyware but I'm just not sure. I'm not a techie so I'll try to describe this as effectively as I can. Occasionally, not often, I will be merrily clicking through the internet using my AOL software (latest beta version, 9.5e) when, after a random click, a webpage---a tab, in AOL-speak---will appear suddenly. All it contains is some sort of ad, like advertising an advanced degree from some school, or some other marketing stuff. The URL at the top is almost 300 characters long (!!), but always seems to start with some variation of delb.opt.fimserve.com. I've spent a lot of time finding related IP addresses and ranges and blocking them through my McAfee security software. But, the damned stuff still occasionally appears seemingly randomly. It's become infuriating and scary because I don't seem to be able to stop it---somebody can get into my computer and I have no idea how they're doing it despite my security software. I want to stop these people at my firewall. Can somebody tell me how to do that? Do I need yet more security software? Is something living in my computer that defeats my security software? Why doesn't McAfee handle this more effectively? I'm baffled.
