Results are in - You want to know which anti-virus is best?

by v8ornot2v8 - 3/9/09 8:57 PM

I had battled a few viruses at work and we used a few of the free "anti-virus, trojan and malware programs. I was talking to the IT guy at work and because of what had happened, he decided he would test some of them, kindof do a side by side comparison and see which one was better.

So, he installed then (one at a time) on a fresh computer (not on the network of course), then he infected it. He tracked how many/which one each antivirus recorded after their scan. When he was done with each one - he reimaged the same computer and repeated the cycle - installing the next anti-virus software. He did this for 5 of the big ones - Prevx, AVG, Norton, Superantispyware and Cyberdefender.

The results showed that most of them got core group of the viruses, trojans and spyware, but the differences in the programs were what non-cores the programs didn't find.

In the end, based on our findings we decided to purchase Cyberdefender for the office - it had the best price with more features.

Since then, we run Cyberdefener on 16 systems. Theres only been 1 issue - the Rogue Antivirus 2009. Using the support line, I called them and they got online and fixed it. The very next day they did an update.

Our IT guy says he really likes that Cyberdefender runs so fast, plus, anytime there is a problem, CYberdefender is there willing to help an dfigure it out.

As a rule, it's best to have your anti-virus software, no matter what type, installed and up to date before you get a virus. There are even some viruses that won't even let you install anti-virus programs after your system has been infected.

Well I hope this review has been helpful. I would like to note that in our testing we used the free versions of the anti-virus programs.
Half of them were fully functional, pop-ups for the up sell and/or supported by Ads. The other half were just scanners or had limited useability. The free version of Cyberdefender is more a scanner that is able to fix Trojans and spyware , but you have to purchase the upgrade to remove any viruses. The paid upgrade functions just like the free version - but with the paid version you get the virus removal feature is added as well as a few other functions.
