USB drive, unable to view hidden files after virus

by gnw1976 - 12/2/08 9:20 PM

Hi, new to Cnet. Have searched a few forums and found similar issues but have followed the advice and unable to resolve my problem so calling out for help.

I am travelling in S.E. Asia and have been using a Cruzer USB stick as a storage device for my photos (regularly transferring from my digital camera to USB). Also have some documents on the USB relating to flight bookings, accomodation etc.

Along the way picked up a virus. Unsure which but used a hotel AV software to remove it.
The virus symptoms: set my files and folders to hidden and created files with same name but .exe extension in their place. I normally have hidden files visible so i saw through the charade immediately and did the cleanup. After the cleanup I have a few of the folders and files hidden and am unable to set the values to "show hidden files". I followed instruction from another Cnet forum and used the flash disinfector tool; and also UItool (repair option).

Current Problem: I am now able change the folder options to show hidden files but.... they are not shown. I have used MSDos prompt to display the hidden files/folders and confirm they exist. I aslo ran an AV scan again this morning (clean result using hotel PC (VirusScan Enterprise) which showed the files being searched and listed the hidden files.
I am also able to use properties tab to show the folder sizes and comparing that to sizes of visible folders confirms the other files/folders still exist. I just cannot see them.

Very concerned as not only do i have info and a lot of travel pics "hidden"but my camera was itself infected and so the DCIM folder is hidden and thus i cannot copy/move pics off my camera.

Any suggestions would be truly appreciated.
Thanks
