AVG 8.0: How to suspend the whole thing?

I upgraded from 7.5 to 8.0 and so far I'm not too happy with it.
It bogs down my PC noticibly over 7.5 but will turn off the link scanner to see if it gets any better.
One thing I can't figure out is how to suspend the anti-virus. I searched for over 1 hour. There is no suspend feature like almost every other virus program I have ever used. I found some threads stating to go into control panel-> resident shield, but I do not have that (was that v.7.5 - I don't recall). If I go into the AVG user interface (where they have the green check marks of what components are running), there is not option to turn off or uncheck the anti-virus and anti-spyware.
The only way I could stop AVG 8.0 was to go to task manager, and kill all process that started with avg. There must be a quicker and nicer way to do this....right? To start AVG up again, I have to logout of the PC.
This is really lame. Why is there not shut off or suspend right click menu option on the task bar icon...
