Spyware, viruses, & security forum: Ad-Aware 2007...Need Help Removing It

That is all I can think of. You are right about this version... I managed to uninstall it... but it left the machine with a boot error message. After that Vista boots. One day I will find a way to stop the boot error message.

Thanks for your suggestions...unfortunately, neither of them worked. Nor did going in through "services.msc" through command mode and disabling AWW2007. I just sent a flamer to the lavasoft forum, informing them that I'll be STRONGLY recommending to the people on my mailing list that they avoid downloading this thing at all costs...that is, unless they WANT to spend their next day or two trying to get their computers back up to snuff after they unsuspectingly try to download AAW2007's Updates.

For myself, I'll probably end up doing a disc recovery on my computer and reinstalling what I need, minus Ad-Aware. Since I'm now using it for business purposes, not merely as the word processor it originally was meant to be, I can't afford to blow off more time on this thing.

I mean, my word, I love to read--but I prefer not needing to do it between the time I click on a program, and the time it finally sees fit to come up!


Whatever in the world induced CNet to call this a good program?

After following your instructions on removing AdAware 2007, all is gone from my computer. I did a search and found your detailed instructions after spending an hour trying to do it on my own. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

I was having a problem remove the Ad-ware 2007 from my computer also. I follow the direction given. Run, typing "services.msc" then Ok. Highlighting the ad-ware 2007 file, clicking properities, disabling the program, apply, ok, restarting my computer and uninstalling the program in the usual manner.

One last question, why didn't ad-ware give us this solution. These are suppose to be big-time computer people.

..computers by doing this:

First, shut down the Ad-Aware 2007 service.. (Click on Start-Run, type "services.msc", then click on OK. When the "Services" window loads, double click on the "Ad-Aware 2007" listing to open the Properties window for that service.. Now click on the "Stop" button in the "Service Status" section, let it stop the service, then click on the "Apply" button.

Once the service is stopped, then go to the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs section and uninstall Ad-Aware 2007 normally.

It seems turning off the service allows the program to correctly uninstall.

After working this for 6 hours, I tried installed "Windows Install Clean Up" but also Disabled Adware per your suggestion about the same time.

Rebooted and I'm not sure which did the trick but my Upload speed on "speakeasy.net" (test on bottom of page) just went from 150k to 1m on Comcast.

Would the Windows Clean Up have taken care of this "virus" as well since it's so easy to use. Any dangers here.

Isn't it ironic that a Virus protection company is installing this "virus" on our computers that ties up our processor. This is like Bud saying "please drink responsibility" or these payday loan companies saying "please borrow what you can afford" or like a coke dealer saying please just buy a little from me.

Why hasn't Lavasoft sent out notifications to all subscribers. Are they trying to hide this. Any good class action attorneys out there!

I'm not quite sure I know what you mean, when you say "I followed the instructions from your website, but still get error 1720 Message". Who's website?

I would first try what Grif suggested in the above post. Is the 1720 error followed by, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run"? If so, see the below thread, where it's suggested to install "Windows Script 5.6 for Windows XP and Windows 2000".

If it still won't uninstall, try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. If neither help, let us know what you've done thus far, and what obstacles you ran into.

Did you try removing Norton A/V via Add/Remove? Did you also try using the Norton Removal Tool? It should help.

It would also help to download and install CCleaner, to clean up leftover and unnecessary files.
