Virus? All folders set to read only.

Heyy,

I encountered a problem on my computer recently, whereby all my FOLDERS are set to Read-only. When I right cick 'properties': read-only is checked and greyed out. I tried unchecking it and 'apply' settings, but it rechecks itself. This goes for all my directories and folders. Weird thing was that the files in the folders did have not 'read only' checked off, but they had the properties of read-only files; I can't modify my word documents, etc.

When I did a scan with Norton, nothing showed up.

How should I tackle this?

(I am using windows vista.)
