Go to Immunize window of SS&D then look at the "Unprotected" column. Post back which one has "1".
See also if the trick by member Dustyn at their forums will help you:

"After you immunize everything, right click somewhere in the immunization window beside all your checked items. Select de-select all items. All checked items should now be BLANK with NO checkmarks in any box. Now simply check the one box that is not being immunized properly.
I have 19 objects on the fourth line (internet explorer 32 bits/ software (plugins)
In your case it would be the above item. Now click UNDO at the top of the window beside immunize. Now, click immunize and those 19 objects should now say 0. If so.... you are completely immunized and protected.
"Unprotected" Item in SS&D

Donna -- Sorry I did not respond sooner, but I was waiting for the "unprotected" number to go from 0 to 1, which it did today. The unprotected item has a check beside it and is in the category of IE (32/64 bit):
S-1-5-21-515967899-1580816 and there are 146 items that should be protected all the time instead of 145.
Could this have anything to do with the one or two of my regular websites with which IE will not allow a connection......both of which I have no problem connecting when signed on to AOL? This began happening somewhere around the time I installed SS&D 1.5? I have been blaming it on AOLSoftware.exe which was installed automatically also around that same time.

Donna -- I truncated the unprotected item number in my previous reply to you. Here is the complete version.

IE must be the default browser. AOL tends to manipulate IE to its advantage, try setting AOL so that it will not connect when you bootup using the tray icon right click.
>> my regular websites with which IE will not allow a connection
Outlook Express suffers from this problem, IE must be the Default Browser and then if you click a hyperlink IE will pop it up otherwise IE will not be able to interpret anything in a received email.

cmjcmjcmj -- Appreciate your reply and your help to my above question.....thank you.
AOL is not in system tray or at startup and does not connect until I sign on to it from desktop. Although in my last post I mentioned a problem with "one or two websites", it turned out to be only one and as far as I know, it is still only Blue Mountain that IE does not allow.
IE is set to check first whether it is the default browser. I have had the same settings on my computers for 10 years

Thanks for the links and information.....it appears that this is just a temporary solution for the many who are having my problem only with a larger number of unprotected items. From what I can tell, they have to redo manually every time they start up. My unprotected 1 item happens often enough, but not at every startup (probably every other startup
)
I am getting ready for a small trip, but when I get back methinks I might reinstall 1.4 if all else fails.

that the item needed to be protected all the time gets the message from the "green + [immunize" to which you refer and although all the items immunized are checked, there is one that loses the protection after awhile and shows up as 0 in the area on the side.......immunizing again corrects the problem, but it is only temporary.

Under HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider\S-1-5-21-1708537768 [ two more long strings & ending in
-1004 ].
I have seen a simular item show up when I added spyware into my restricted zone and on a scan from CA Spyware, it shows up and kept deleting it and shows up again. When I moved the top to the right, I would see that so I put that into ignore. It will show up in other
antispyware scans also. One was Trojan RegFish.A I had AOL and there are 2 tracking cookies, atwola.com & atdmt.com (atlasdmt.com). Darrell
Thank you, Darrell

I think v1.5 is not very stable yet:
1. The issue you mentioned
2. The slow in loading (unless the user will install the patch)
3. In Vista system, user need to run SS&D using 'run as admin' or else a feature of SS&D will not work properly as it requires to be UAC aware.
So I will support your plan to downgrade to v1.4 if the immunization issue do not have permanent solution thru their program update.

that these old, trusted apps should make a separate version just for Vista. It seems, to me anyway, the perfectly good programs get messed up when they try to bridge the XP to Vista gap. Similar to the Win 95/98/ME to XP gap of years ago. Doesn't help that Vista is a "work in progress" with changes/revisions coming hot & heavy. Ready for SP1?? LOL! S
This new version is buggy, PERIOD, doesn't

Spybot 1.5.1.15 Immunization

I'm running a Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz Win2K SP4 all updated and patched, 1Gb RAM, with Comodo Firewall and BOClean, Avast 4 Home AV, and Spyware Blaster for my full-time protection; and Superantispyware and A-Squared Free for my on-demands.
I too have to do the immunization update manually every week. An early posted work-around for the global hosts immunization where you go to advanced mode > tools > hosts file and then add Spybot host list manually worked for me only once. After that I got the error message about the file being in use which other people get.
So a work-around that works for me is to download and install the update and then manually immunize the host file in safe mode. It's a PITA, but it gives you a chance to do some housekeeping and run some scans while you're in safe mode.
However, the patch that seems to work for some people to speed-up the start-up (v1.5.1.16 *beta*) will not install on my machine, and I'm not alone here as I read someone else in the Spybot forum with the same problem and same error (sorry, I forgot what the error was.)
So the bottom line here is that there seem to be enough ways to get the immunization to work, but not everyone is able to get a decent start-up. So I think I'm going to keep it until v1.5.1.16 is a final, but if there isn't significant improvement, I'm gonna have to axe it for a while. It's just too much of a nuisance.
Me too

Hi,
I've just seen this thread with the help of the email newsletter. After reading this I decided to check my Spybot 1.5 as well...Usually I just check to see if there are any updates, if so download and Immunize and check again. It always says 0 Items unprotected after this process. However I have just checked and found 147 Items unprotected all for Opera Cookies. So it seems that version 1.5 is not quite ready. Ahh yes I run Windows XP Pro SP2

Hi, I have been in contact with Spybot and this is their reply about slow start up and not immunized items....well so far I haven't found anything wrong!!
Best Wishes
We already have located the startup problems in Spybot S&D version 1.5 and fixed it:
http://forums.spybot.info/project.php?issueid=85
Here is the download file for the fix:
http://www.safer-networking.org/file...8-79-84-85.zip
Please store the two containing files (spybotsd.exe and domains.sbs) in your Spybot folder.
Normally it is located here:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
The spybotsd.exe belongs to this path:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
The domains.sbs belongs to this one:
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Includes
If you are asked if you want to override this files enter yes - this will make the changes.
Or just download the new Spybot beta:
http://www.safer-networking.org/file...15he-beta1.exe
Best regards
Sandra

Well, I'm not going to argue with the people at Spybot. We're all happy that they continue to support a good free product. But the fact remains that almost everyone has to fiddle with the immunization one way or another to get *fully* immunized, and the patch that remedied the slow start-up works for many, but nor for all. When the program updates to v1.5.1.16 final...not beta patch...we'll see. But for now too many people find v1.5 too buggy to call it a good final yet.
Well for me no probs

Correct link:
SpybotSD.exe-1.5.1.16-2007-09-24-issues-76-78-79-84-85.zip
I downloaded it to my desktop and extracted the 2 files to Program Files\SpybotS&D folder.
Clicked on the ICON and a box popped up to ask if I wanted to RUN. Clicked and it started right up! It used to take 2-3 times to open.

I didn't know where in the thread to stick this, but...
I installed the "Halloween Beta" (v1.5.1.17) and it solved all of the problems that I was having. The program opens in seconds and the immunizations update worked properly too.
So my thanks to Team Spybot.

Though, I installed the beta into C:/Program Files/Spybot S&D
Folder. Uninstalling is not what was specified in the Forum (Spybot's).
I know it is in ZIP format but with WINZIP 10, I can create an .EXE file that will install directly but you wouls still need to specify where to send it to, Program Files\SpybotS&D1.5 Darrell

Miki, as I mentioned in my first post, I couldn't get the beta patch (v1.5.1.16) to install. The Halloween Patch is v1.5.1.17 and that's what did the trick for me.
