Firefox Home Page HiJacked?

I have not been able to change my Firefox Home Page for some time now. It has not bothered me as I have saved other Firefox Options on my Tools Menu but this is irritating.

What have I done to correct this - Well simply everything at sometime or another. I have totally uninstalled Firefox and re-Installed, with different Versions as well so waiting for an upgrade will not help. I have run all the popular "Free" and some -not-so-"Free" Anti-Spyware programs, as well as HiJack this! Plus my Purchased Anti-Virus Program McAfee VirusScan32 Enterprise has found nothing also......any suggestions?

Nothing out of the ordinary here, I have a Dell Laptop running MSXP SP2......Thanks for any help conributed!

Firefox for any operating system
Changing your home page in Firefox is easy. Just follow these steps:

1. Browse normally to the web page you want as your home page.

2. Pull down the "Tools" menu of Firefox.

3. Select "Options."

4. Click on the "General" tab, if it is not the first to appear.

5. You'll see the "Home Page" box at the top.

6. Click the "Use Current Page" button in that box.

7. Click "OK."

8. Close and open Firefox. You should see your new home page.

Been there, Done that....

Yes Marianna, I do try that all the time. Well not much anymore as it has no effect beyond changing my Home Page for as long as I don't close Firefox. Close or even Rebooting in effect reverts all changes back to the same Home Page I have had for months. I used to like to change my Home Page as often as I change socks.
A rare form of a hideous beast has invaded no doubt, we just need to identify this creature, whether it be Maluware, Virus, Spybot, or Trojan.......it be there. I appreciate your post, and we must eliminate the obvious for I forgot to mention that in my original post, so thanks again........TBIRD7777

Any software installed that try to override your homepage

I've seen reports that some software that has homepage protection enabled can override a homepage.

This is an example --> http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=394656&postdays=0&postorder=asc&postsperpage=15&start=15
The IBM software has the option to only load the homepage it is set (but can be changed if user change it from the options of the said software).

If no such software in your machine, you might want to try to slect "Firefox (Safe mode)" from Start Programs>Mozilla Firefox then put a check for "reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults". Hit "Make changes and restart".

That will then remove whatever corrupts the settings and then you can try to change your homepage to the one you want.

3 Exellent Suggestions

Marianna & Donna,

Now there is a bevy of exellent suggestions....I tried Donna's 2nd suggestion first, which reverted some Firefox settings back to default value but nothing on the Home Page problem changed. I then performed Marianna's suggestion with SmitFraudFix (of whom I have heard)- no go but a great suggestion, and I am now reading through the MozillaLine Form that deals specifically with Home Page Hi Jacks as per Donna's 1st idea!.....and will start on that advise later today.......I'm havin some fun now, no specific success but some fun, as I finally take a run at this!

You may also try to reset the rest using the Firefox Safe Mode and temporarily disable add-ons.
Maybe one of it will help grin

google.com wants to be hompage.
yahoo.com wants to be HP.
My isp want to be HP.
aol.com, ditto. my home page has remained the same thru all of this:
http://www.microsoft.com/ my default is IE for browser
All have worked using that alone, firefox, google, yahoo, aol & my ISP. Darrell
