Spyware, viruses, & security forum: Norton IS 2007 & Windows Security Center Turned Off

Ran Housecall and it picked up three instances of virus or spyware that were deleted. Downloaded and ran Spybot S & D and it found and fixed the Windows Security Center problem. Had trouble downloading and installing Panda and Ewido since I'm not a wiz at this stuff. Also, removed Norton, downloaded and installed it again. Never could get it to update and now it won't launch at all. Going to try Panda and Ewido again.

Well, the "standard" way is to press the F8 key on your keyboard when Windows starts loading. This can be quite tricky on many computers where you may have a window of opportunity of approximately .2 milliseconds in which to press the F8 key. If you miss the window of opportunity you need to reboot and try again.

If you can't even get into Windows you have little choice but to continue trying to press F8 at just the right moment to enable booting into SafeMode. However, if you can at least get into Windows, you can use the MSCONGIF utility to help you out.

Click on Start, then Run. In the Run dialog box type "msconfig" and press enter to start the MSCONFIG utility.

I have two computers both with the same (I think) AOL Security Software. The one with the 2007 upgrade is the one with the problem. The other has Norton 2005 and no problems. Might be incompatibility between NIS 2007 and AOL.
I'm still going to try the start in Safe Mode as suggested by Grif if I can figure out how to do it. Then if that doesn't work and the computer does not get launched out the door I may try uninstalling AOL. I'm a little hesitant to do that since Norton does not appear to be working.
