Uninstalling program not listed in Add/Remove

I posted the below in another forum and a member suggested I post it in this forum:
I let my MS Anti-Spyware program (first version) expire on July 31, 2006. No big deal I thought. So I went to install the new beta 2 version from Microsoft and got an error message to uninstall the old version first. Note that although the expired program was still in my C:Programs, the "uninstall.exe" would not work and if I tried to open the expired program, I'd an error message that it had expired. So I go to control panel\Add & Remove Programs, and MS Anti-Spyware is not listed, even though it is still in my programs folder! I cannot install the new program until I uninstall the old. What to do? My Windows XP Pro is a valid program, 2.2 GHz PC with 1 GB memory. The first MS ASW version worked great.
