Could" persistence" / Igfxpers.exe be trouble?

I recently installed and un-installed some updated drivers from Intel. The performance seemed worse with new ones. A day or so later I noticed a new checked entry in Config>start up: Displayed name: Persistence/ file name:Igfxpers.exe. I thought it related to known Intel files : Igfx Tray/ Igfx.exe.
I didn't like hints behind word "persistence" so I Googled it and found very little. One of the few was a Hijack This posting site and in response he instructed poster to remove this item with HJT.
Enough for me to ask here for opinions. (Note: This item was not installed by original Intel Drivers I installed 1/2 year ago.) Thanks in Advance ! happy

Try to locate the file then upload it to:
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus

Wait for awhile to see the scan result. If infected delete it.

Have you checked the properties of the file to see who owns the exe file and when it was created?

1st being a prefetch file & 2nd being the Exe. in system 32. Should have thought of properties myself !! Dumb, dumb!
Copyrighted to Intel to 2004. Listed as common user interface: persistence module. Guess it's ok (now will decide if I need it at all since it's part of the removed NEW drivers). Thanks again! happy
