There are some issues on which you have to be a complete
idiot, bounder, cad, boob, slime-ball, psychopath to disagree. There is nothing sweeter than a good tempered dog. They make you feel better just by looking at you or you looking at them, and particularly when they cuddle up. And I say that as an exceptionally allergic asthmatic who suffers terrible allergies when I'm in the presence of virtually any animal. But I can't resist dogs, no matter how bad it gets. I carry anti-histamines and wash my hands a million times because I can't keep my hands off them, and I still use Ventolin and have to leave early because my eyes are streaming from the allergies.
Friends had a Black Lab named Trudy, who was always so happy to see you, she squirmed and wiggled as she walked up to greet you. Never jumped up, but always snuffled at your knees and your hands. She had a very oily coat, which was purest hell for me, but she was irresistible. She wasn't young when I first met her but she was also a wonderful water dog who loved leaping off the diving board at these folks' cottage, and would swim as long as anybody else was in the water, and sometimes jumped in just for herself when nobody was in the water. If someone could have made me not allergic, I'd have kidnapped her, except I'd then have proven myself a cad, and a bounder and unworthy of her affection because I'd be depriving her of her family and her family of her, so I'd have gone out an bought another Lab with the same temperament.
Oh, and since Trudy belonged to some of my earliest friends up here, she played ball hockey. Best damned goalkeeper you ever saw. Two paws and a mouth, no stick needed.
Thanks, Toni. Loved the vid.
