What the Right in the United States has been engaged in

by Ziks511 - 4/30/13 2:06 PM

for the last 35 years, is nothing less than an assault on the assumed equality of all citizens enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. It has certainly not been opposed by those on the Left. We have seen programmes designed for the broad majority of people like Social Security, or even simply a broad minority of its citizens attacked as being programmes for special interests, while real special interests, the mining industry, the oil industry, many manufacturers, all of whom gain more in total from government than any social programme can provide have been treated by the Republicans and at the least Blue Dog Democrats as the legitimate majority whom they should be representing and supporting.

The Unitied States is not alone in this. Equality of all citizens has been under siege practically since the concept was invented, because rights for the majority mean that the exclusive possession of those rights by a wealthy and powerful elite are no longer exclusive. Elites are jealous entities, not to mention incredibly selfish. Just look at how assiduously Congress of both Parties, and the Senate of both Parties protect those perks they deny everyone else. Insider trading, an enviable Health Care Plan, not paid for by their own contributions, lengthy holidays at their whim exemption from some of the laws of the land. That's certainly equality at its best.

We're being played for suckers by the people we elected to represent us, who identify more with the problem causers, than with those affected by those problems. Why else was nobody charged with anything following the debacle on Wall Street where rampant illegality went on, but just sort of slipped the attention of people legislating the bail-out. Mind you the bail-out was written and passed by the Bush Administration who were disinclined to see their friends and contributors go to jail. It's a surprise Bernie Madoff didn't get a pass too.

It's time that all the people, Conservative and Liberal, recognized that we're all getting shafted by a group of elites who have removed themselves from us. Their kids go to private schools, and private Universities, and associate with the kids of the rest of the Elites and pick up the same assumptions and the same prejudices, and the same hatred of equality.
