The CIA was a junior partner in what was effectively entirely a Canadian operation. Which fact the US government used to acknowledge, but apparently doesn't want to talk about anymore.

John Sheardown started the ball rolling by hiding 6 Americans in his house, eventually informing Taylor who with the complete cooperation and resources of the Department of Foreign Affairs organized the eventual escape of the 6 by providing passports clothes fake identities and equipment to back up the cover story.

Apparently because Taylor did covert work for the CIA after the hostage crisis, the makers of Argo decided to make it an all-American movie, with only a tiny text bit at the end about Ken Taylor and the other Canadians involvement. Taylor and Sheardown and the rest aren't named in the film, despite many books about the incident in the years following it.

As someone not born here, I think it's a travesty, and I feel angry that the US yet again, needs like an inadequate teenager, to steal credit from those who helped in its hour of need.

I am frankly embarrassed and ashamed, despite the fact that none of my friends have brought it up, and all of them shrug when I get upset about it.

Canadians are too f**king polite, and too quick to let loudmouths from Britain and the US take credit for Canadian courage and staunch friendship.
