NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Eighteen people have been charged in what may be one of the nation's largest credit card fraud rings, a sprawling international scam that duped credit rating agencies and used thousands of fake identities to steal at least $200 million, federal authorities said Tuesday.

of one of your numerous pet hates is ludicrous. If you ever post a picture, I suggest you title it King of the Red Herrings.

BTW, any criminal clever enough and determined enough to pull this off would probably do very well in a regular job. It's just that a regular job doesn't pay as well, and that is a telling criticism of the distribution of wealth in the country. One of the things that decent wages buys is a certain level of freedom from crime like this for the rest of us.

My subject line was ironic, hence my bracketed comment. The second quote could have come from a 2008 US story also IMO. Anyway, it's a sad story; probably should have left it alone.
