From your description, it sounded like the crusher (whatever it's called) was remaining enabled so I was thinking a stuck switch. A multimeter would have helped figure that out. Ours hasn't been trouble free either but so far it's not needed parts replacement. Our dishwasher is another story. I've had it apart a few times. I've the front latch switch bypassed for now and am nursing it along until we can do some other kitchen updates. Good luck with your project.
