RIP, the Canadian penny.

They're not going to make any more, but there are still 60,000,000 in circulation. I don't know how long it will take for businesses to round everything up to a nickel.

When sales taxes were imposed some decades ago, retailers grabbed a significant extra profit, then when the sales tax was "Harmonized" about 4 years ago the same thing happened. Apparently it isn't only governments who take advantage of opportunities to grab extra money.

American penny should have been dead years ago

Round it off by standard rules, half or more up, less down.

Most people end up with bucket or more of pennies, they don't take them out with them and count them out in the checkout line.

They were in the past given to kids to cash what they would roll.
