Related: Greek cops are smarter. The beat the crap out of some bank robbers and then Photoshopped the mug shots to clean 'em up. Reason: 'Made it easier for citizens to identify them when the photos were published.'

A GI gets roughed up by his own Sgt. or perhaps his barracks mates for some reason. The "honor code" requires that he not indict them for his injuries if questioned by higher ups. Thus, "What happened to you, solder?" begets the reply "I slipped on a bar of soap, sir!". I think that's fairly close.
