When we get to a point where a school shooting isn't news anymore, we've pretty much had it as a first-world country.

It's not a journalist's job to evaluate whether a story perpetrates someone's perceived agenda before deciding to cover it.

In Chicago it happened over 500 times that someone died last year. While I don't get the Sun Times or Tribune here but it's my guess is that it's no longer newsworthy and/or would take up too much valuable space to cover every murder.

tackling that issue gains no political real estate. It's a local issue and, in many eyes, it's just bad people shooting other bad people. Besides, they almost all have illegally acquired weapons and there's no way to collect them voluntarily. The only way to get guns off the street is to go after those who didn't or won't break the law to get or keep them.
