Newsweek last print issue

Yet another magazine is biting the dust. No longer to be had as a printed issue, Newsweek. I don't know but I like having to read something from my hands, not be on a screen. Sure, its my opinion but generally it makes it more real and solid to me.

Yes, I've read it. I wonder how long Time may hang around too. I guess Playboy may be on the list, too. Printed media, the era is getting shorter and shorter.

have much to do with the closing of most national magazines, particularly the news one.

I will grant that publications that more resemble political National Enquirers may survive because of the current desire of people to only hear/read what they believe is correct.

Seems Newsweek couldn't do any better than Birds & Blooms which caters to a select group of enthusiasts. Their main competitor TIME ate their lunch too. Still, doing better on circulation than the New Yorker.

The fancy rags

I like Birds&Blooms, its good reading and pictures. It gives me ideas on how to make a sustainable garden. Also, help the humming birds get a move on. I always tend to plant and leave it, it has to fend for itself other than simple weeding. I had the great hens&chickens garden for awhile, but moved it in order to make a raised flower bed box. the oldies transplants didn't seem to take. of course, I like the letters or comments and it seems to be a magazine that caters well to its readers, no super ads, etc..

I read Time and Newsweek only because the events that past in an issue or so over-glossed when it comes to WWW news feeds. It rarely seems to be taken to task, just dumped on the screen. rare follow-ups or more sizzle in something else. its always the hot-hot-hot topic of the day, like the Te'O imaginary affair. That gets so dragged out it really not news worthy, IMO.

As for magazines in general especially women based they seem to stay similar and come and go and return better or worse. They stick to the tried true formulas and apparently that works. I love my old "Hot Hod" magazines but these have changed so much, its more about installing purely out of the box improvements, rather yard tree hints or tips on a regular basis. -----Willy happy

I used to get Mother Earth News

I still have in pristine condition a suitcase full of their earliest issues in the 70's. Moving around so much in the 80's I just didn't renew and never got back to it. You might like the new format GRIT magazine. Used to be a newspaper decades ago. Not sure when they went to magazine form. They both are part of same publishing company now.
