If you spill oil into the ground, they scream "pollution". If instead you dig the oil out of the ground along with tar, they yell "devastation".

after liners and clay layers are installed after they are finished can become wonderful lakes and recreation areas. We are already doing the same for landfills here in the US and all while pulling methane off them for power usage.

didn't the local and state government want to stop it too? or at least objected to it's proposed route because of fears of damaging/contaminating the local water aquifer?

Isn't the clamor right now to take power away from the federal government and give it back to the local and state elected officials?
