However, after the first one I read reported the term is generally considered offensive, I looked at several of the links.
About half of several I looked at only defined it as another name for Khoikhion. But the other half, including Meriam Webster and Oxford dictionaries did say it was often considered offensive.
I'm not accusing you of intending it to be offensive. I'm just pointing it out that i's often considered by offensive for information for the future.

Don't know the numbers, I'll concede Hostess may have needed to renegotiate contracts to become profitable, or more profitable. I won't concede, not working there, not having all the financial data at my disposal, that the hedge funds mangement wasn't trying to make a less than fair deal by trading on the fears of the employees of the current job market.

Now you can say any job is better than no job, and that's almost true. But if keeping your job means giving up benefits, especially retirement, that you had work years partly on the promise of getting, then you really have to think about knuckling under without a fight.

It all boils down to were the baker's union member totally unreasonabe, that the company was being fair and honest? Or did the vulture fund managers see an opportunity to make a huge profit on a company they bought at firesale prices (since that is what a distress company investment generally means) even larger by screwing the employees out of everything they had been promised or by closing the company and selling it off.

Sometimes the whole is worth less than the sum of it's parts. You close it, sell physical assests, sell product trademarks, sell customer list and leveragable information. The greatest profit means disassembling the company and throwing the workers away.

Citing Union contracts as a factor after giving the CEO a 300% raise to a salary now at or above 2.5 million yearly looks more like a Bain capitol strategy to move the work to China. Meanwhile petrified Twinkies (soon to become extinct) will increase in value on eBay. Last advertised price = $27 US dollars. Perhaps buyers are not buying as many unhealthy treats as they once did.
