He asked the president not to because it would be a logistical nightmare to get him into the city and the NYPD is kind of busy these days. Even now, with most bridges reopened, traffic getting into and out of Manhattan is horrendous.

I mean, a week later? no way to accomdate it in my view. After 3 or 4 weeks maybe, but I think they need 2 weeks just to understand what needs to be done.

It should have been cancelled immediately after the storm as soon as the damage was apparent. It seems some runners have already spent appreciable sums of money travelling since it was announced it would go on.

Really, how can you have a marathon that is suppose to start in an area you can't even let all the residents back into yet?

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw two guards standing over/near two generators Bloomberg planned to use for the marathon .. two generators that were taken away from the Staten Island people who are totally cut off from civilization right now, and each one would have powered ten houses. The callousness frightened me with regard to B's priorities.

thankfully was only run one day late on the scheduling due to storm problems. I know there were a few schools in this county in Maryland still without power yesterday. The day after the storm there were 2 days off as they tried to get power to the schools. I remember one school day after the 2 days off the storm the count was 17 county schools without power, the others opened. I think all schools will be with power on Monday if they weren't Friday. I'm still surprised our power didn't go off for this storm since the 25 years I've lived here it's gone out almost every major snowstorm. We really lucked out. Also I saw BGE trucks out this year being more aggressive about clearing trees away from the lines. I have crabapples planted under mine which never reach the lines, but other people foolishly put large type trees under them. I wish BGE would go around and remove them all and then charge them if the tree was placed there AFTER the lines arrived.

There are areas with big old oaks that are 200+ years old that were there first. I have one I estimate almost 300 years in my yard, far enough the branches aren't over the lines, but near enough if it went over it would take them and a transformer out. I estimate the age since we had some removed that were 2 foot diameter and their rings measured out about 200 years. That was interesting since I could count the rings back to when we moved here and I started doing the yard, keeping it fertilized and the rings got wider in the same year and afterwards.

People are dead, people are hurt, tens of thousands of people's lives are changed forever. Politics are possibly getting in the way of helping the people who pay the taxes that support, local, state, and federal government whose purpose is to serve the people that pay those taxes... and you're getting your chuckle on.
