didn't see any presented so commenting on one post leaves an incomplete picture of the conversation. That's sort of what happens when the media picks one phrase from a speech and runs with it. In any event, the OP mentioned that the candidate made a remark about the rarity of conception from abortion. My comments were based largely on that one sentence. First, I doubt there are reliable statistics to prove that to be true. Secondly, it does nothing to make the act of rape any more or less meaningful when justifying a reason to have an abortion.

....makes a big difference to her, and if she's married to her husband also. There's one to consider, how the husband feels about her "rape" child, is he willing to raise the child of his wife's rapist, or not. Rape doesn't just affect the woman, it effects her entire family, whether that is husband or boyfriend, parents, other children she may already have. Rape is not just a female matter.

I can tell you where a lot of failures from sex education class are. Most any neighborhood where a large number of unmarried females are having babies. Of course another way of looking at that is they aced it? Maybe it's not sex education they need as much as family education.

Compare the unwed pregnancy rate of the 50's and 60's without sex education to today's rate when there is sex education. It's a no brainer to see the relationship.

......be sure to eliminate those women who made a conscious choice to have babies without getting married first. That number has gone up considerably and accounts for most unwed births nowadays. Remove those women from the equation and the fact is that unwanted teen pregnancies have been in decline for decades. As you said, coinciding with those teens having more access to information that can help them make better choices.

I think he would do just as well on an medical ethics or criminal law committee where he could pontificate more upon the differences between "legitimate" and "illegitimate" rape.

One has to wonder if this guy has ever uttered the phrase "Well look at the way she was dressed".

Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin canceled a primetime TV appearance at the last minute Monday night, shying away from the spotlight on a day he was under fire for controversial comments he made about rape.

It appears that the GOP may be pressuring Akin to bow out of the whole race.

"Pressure from the mainstream Republican Party mounted on the Missouri representative throughout the day to drop his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill in November because of his comments about "legitimate rape" and opposing abortion in rape cases."
