Something that struck me as funny about college athletics

Sorry but no link right now but I just read an article about an athlete on our high profile college football team who was dismissed after being charged with domestic violence. He was attending the university on scholarship of course and the article listed his major as "sports and leisure studies". Sounds like a tough program...studying about leisure, that is. Just the thought of opening a book to read about how to take it easy just tuckers me out. happy

You can't make this stuff up and can't tell me that these are not fluffy courses designed to keep top notch but not so academically inclined athletes from losing sports eligibility.

in UCLA when I lived near there and knew some non-athletic students. Some classes not half-bad, like knowing which were the "Mick" courses (as in Mickey Mouse), all of which had some academic value. (And one of great value, whose internationally-known prof was assassinated - but that's another sport.)
"Leisure Studies" (note caps) is allied with Recreational Studies, which teaches one how to set up, publicize, and run a city recreation program, e.g. Still a funny story, though ... except to the GF. Wonder if steroids played a role?
A local story of last week said a local kid now in MMA has to go back to jail after [again] violating his parole for drug use. In the latest incident he beat up his ex-GF. I taught him in HS a couple of times and he was a good kid. Then he found wrestler's heaven in a needle ...
