Nonetheless, it is an outgrowth of this hyper-Activist SCOTUS which opened the floodgates to "soft" Corporate money while closing the access of Unions to supporting the candidate of their choice.

A Casino owner has put up $71 million to support Republican candidates. That's just one guy. You don't think the rest of the Wallowing Wealthy aren't doing the same? But millions of union members are limited to what they can afford as individual donors, limited at $5,500. There aren't many working families who can afford that much. That's equality and fairness under this incredibly Activist Court. Purest idiocy.

on your part....blaming SCOTUS and blaming a wealthy Republican.....and then crying that the union 'members' can only donate $5500, but not mentioning the millions that those union members' leaders donate to Democrats every single election year and it's all union DUES being donated. Are you forgetting Hollywood money and 'fat cat' (BO's term) GM CEO types who hold fund raisers at $40-50K per plate for the Democrats. BO began bragging a year ago about how he was going to have a billion-dollar war chest for this election.....because he firmly convinced himself that he could crap all over his base for three years and they would still just love him so much that the internet again would light up the sky with donations pouring in. BO publicly criticized SCOTUS during his State of the Union address over the decision they made, and yet has also been taking full advantage of the money that has been going into HIS SuperPACS.....and if they strike down his 'baby', he will again blast SCOTUS rather than be able to admit to the American people that he spent nearly two years fixated on this one 'star' of HIS rather than on the people who voted him in. He may be what some considered to be a super-star and really cool....but even startdom begins to fade when the people having to light your egotistical candle begin to actually see the light.

No...this is too much intrusion into real family life. I'm not surprised but cheer up now because things will get worse over the next few months. The real dirt is still being composted.

they can come up with the idea themselves and don't need to be solicited. I would really think that politicians who was sincere about taking care of the economy would not ask to divert money from manufacturers and merchants to their own campaigns to be spent on advertising. We can't eat, wear, or otherwise utilize advertising in our daily living. I'd think it better to buy and give away the gravy bowl now than to have to eat out of the shelter's soup bowl later.

After all, it's only taking advantage of a known gift giving institution. So how would you feel if a presidential campaign would invest in red kettles and hand bells? Certainly, in the US, those are recognized gift giving symbols. Why not hijack whatever you can? Anything for a buck.

So was Iran-Contra. I'd bet dollars to donuts that, where the presidents names reversed at this time, they'd have the same supporters and opponents they have now. It's not about the act or deed as much as it is the person who does it. We've become the proverbial lemmings in matters of politics.

he's always had a problem with birthdays, especially his own. Wouldn't it be great to see credit card charges his mother and grandparents did to see when THEY celebrated Obama's birthday?

.....to ASK for this, but doing it is not new. I know people who have routinely asked for donations to their favorite candidates and/or causes in lieu of gifts.
