I think we need to actually give the aid money to India instead............Pakistan's worst enemy and an ally to the US....India would be able to put immediate pressure on Pakistan to sit down and play nice since both countries within shouting distance of each other have nukes.

We do give aid to India also. We're playing both sides of that fight.

Pakistan is a failed state and has been for some time. Their last chance passed when they assassinated their own Benazir Bhutto. We can be sure that much of the aid they get goes to line the pockets of the politicians, and the rest goes to the Taliban .

But the problem is, the West still needs Pakistan at this time because of the actions in Afghanistan. If the Pakistani government falls and radical religious leaders take over, then that hampers the actions in their neighbour.

The problem with applying pressure is, to who? The government has no control and the military is in disarray. The Taliban is not one simple organisation and unlike Al Qaeda there is no 'head' to lop off. Kill one leader and a dozen more are available to take his place.

But the situation may change in 2014/15 when the west withdraws from Afghanistan. At that time there is no more need to fund Pakistan and they and Afghanistan can be left to degenerate into civil wars and poverty.

No, the next focus is Aden. Remnants of Al Qaeda, (including one of Bin Laden's sons), is there and they are busy training more terrorists. Saudi Arabia is concerned because that is right on their doorstep.
