Clarifying for those who don't bother to read past James's tawdry headlines.

It was an iconic ad featuring an artist who is still very popular, which the Jackson estate was OK with Pepsi using again.

A deceased person appears in a recent Obama ad too, but I don't think the bin Laden family is going to protest.

When the ad was run there, the translation of the Chinese word used came out to mean "resurrects your dead ancestors" as I recall, LOL. If it did or not actually mean that, it sure was funny hearing about it years ago, LOL.

One I remember had GM trying to figure out why the Chevy Nova wasn't selling well in Spanish-speaking countries, until someone explained that "No va" means "doesn't go" in Spanish.

If Pepsi wants to do a good advertisement, then get some thing current and appealing such as one or several of those cute kids they have on some of the Idol shows to do some spots for them. That would fall in with the "New Generation" more than some dead 50+ pop idol with baggage.

.....I obviously have to choose my words carefully here. I suppose there will be people who like the idea of re-using the Michael Jackson ad and people who won't. I don't work in the advertising department but I'd guess that their research people have already seen this thread and will use it towards gauging whether it was a good idea or not.
