to know what their own kid is old enough or capable enough to do, especially on a farm? But you're okay leaving those decisions up to a 'city raised' politician who knows next to nothing about farm living? And those farm kids work every day doing chores....not just during summer vacation...and I can personally testify to the fact that far fewer farm kids end up in trouble during their 'formative' years than any city kid I've known. You ever hear the terms "idle hands make for idle minds" and 'idle hands are the devil's workshop"?

Since you live here, here's a link to NYC Community Gardens and Children's School Farms....even NYC, without actual farms available, saw that kids were nicer and more courteous and less inclined to get into trouble when they had a garden to tend.

The new law hasn't come into affect yet so you can't blame it on Obama.

(from my US Dept of Ag link) comes to a smaller number (down 40% BTW) than children who are hurt in non-farming households. Kids on a farm grow up with parents and ranch-farm-hands who teach them safety in the jobs they are allowed to do according to their age level and abilities. However...farm injuries are more likely to involve the loss of digits or limbs.

U.S. Senator John Thune (R-S.D.), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, joins FOX News' "On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren" to discuss the Department of Labor's (DOL) war against the heartland. The DOL is proposing 85 pages of regulations that would severely limit activiites youth can participate in on family farms. Thune has a bill to prevent the regulations from being implemented and the bill has 45 cosponsors, including 5 Democrats.

Glad that Thune is my state senator. In south Dakota their is many family farms.

I helped on my grandpa's farm. back when I was 6, All I really do is help bottle-feed the calves. Also hand tools to him and my uncle as they need them as they fixed the equipment (nothing too heavy).

As I got older I was allowed to do more things.

The Liberal City Dweller Thought Process

I'm a Liberal. I live in a city. I know little to nothing about rural life, maybe a bit more about suburban life. I consider myself smarter than those "rednecks" and "country bumpkins". My self esteemed intellect should allow me to tell those country rural dwellers how they should live, how they should work, and how they should exist as a family. After all, being a city dweller I am at the top of the ladder concerning intelligentsia, so far above those ignorant mud hogs out there in the surrounding countryside. Because we in the city are more concentrated and often outnumber the country people, even though we own much less territory, it's obvious to me that we should be in charge both of city AND of the country people. Country people should however have no say about how we live in the city and especially their quaint and archaic codes of morality, their work ethic, and other antiquated concepts should have no application to city people. We, the city people should rule over them. It is our evolutionary right to.

Someone in the Western World wouldn't have ingenuity to figure out to use a bicycle frame to make a plow.

They would know enough to use a kid for farm labour.
