You want to qualify your statement after the fact. You want to ignore the major part of the franchise ie. the radio show. Qualify all you want to, but don't presume to tell me I threw the first rock. All I did was ask a question. Let me repeat it for you since you seem to have problems with your memory.

you're gonna equate black face in 1940 with this issue ?

I'm not going to equate black face to this. Since you were the one who actually did it, that leaves ONLY you. See how easy it is to make that division between reality and what you want to imagine?

the opportunity for more blacks to be hired for TV, which was in it's infancy still. The loss of that show resulted in a decade or more before studios felt comfortable again in having blacks on TV, lest they incur the wrath of the NAACP, which didn't really represent the entire black race, just a certain elite group of them.

why do you always do that? I was clearly talking about the TV show and you head off onto other venues like movies. Far as I recall I've never seen the movies you mention involving white actors. Here's an interesting concept for you to consider. All the time I watched Charlie Chan I assumed he was Asian, or Oriental as the more popular term of use at the time. How does that factor into your concepts of one race playing another when it's not even recognized as such? Do you see any situation where one race can pretend to be the other in the entertainment industry? Merge your comments about a white Eddy Murphy into whatever you come up with.

Try to look at progress and not just your own idea

of imperfection. We should not look back in horror at what went on during a time we didn't even live. Learn to appreciate the small steps that were made over many decades in the area of racial acceptance. Rather than grumble about the work you think still needs to be done, try to look at what the common people were gradually doing before government waded in.

Most uncomfortably it pre-dated the horror of the Attica prison riot which sort of made later listening uncomfortable, like listening to Vaghn Meader after JFK's assassination..

Parody and Satire are colour blind as anyone who has seen In Living Colour should know. Or Eddie Murphy's hilarious masquerade on the New York Public Transit, and the song that went along with it "We're white, we're white, we're extremely white/ And we walk with our buttocks extremely tight." That and his James Brown "Hot Tub" routine deserves inclusion in the top 10 of all time from SNL.

I have seen several hollywood "news" reporters make the comment on MSM that the suggestion that it was racist began with 3 third tier net bloggers who put out the idea and ran with it when they got some buzz. This does illustrate how an idea can take on a momentum in today's quasi-news reporting blogosphere world of extreme partisan reporting. KFC advertises on BET TV. Is that racist? Taco Bell advertises on Telemundo. Is that racist?

Anyway... I don't see anyone attacking Ms. Blige for taking a million dollars to perform in a "racist" commercial.

We were in mourning, lol. They built a Walgreens to replace it. We were disappointed. Finally they built a new Popeye's a few more miles away.

If not, lock it please. It's gone way beyond my intention which was the desire to stop looking into the cracks and crevices for any hint of racism or racial insensitivity. When it's truly racist, we'll know it. I think this constant focus on eradicating anything could could remotely be considered as sensitive is destroying our ability to have open communication and even enjoy our differences in culture and humor. We've no freedom if we can't laugh with one another.
