My new pet peeve...
Every now and then I checkout the local Craigslist for any freebies that i could use. More often than not, rarely does it produce results for my needs. But, since I've done this have noticed a pattern. Basically, it's someone that wants someone else to remove basically items of little value or trash. Worse, you have to get them from locations that are where they were in place as in current or last use. Sometimes, a find can be had, but overall it's more about removing something for nothing and get what maybe a bargain or less costly item that someone could use. A person actually doing this would IMHO have a need.
A good example is removal of "firewood". Yeah right, usually a fallen tree or just cut down one where the home owner didn't want to pay for its removal or stuck after a good storm or similar. let's face it, firewood can be useful item for many but if the firewood has to be one of everything after it has fallen down, that's one heck of a job. Further, the nerve of some to mention don't leave a mess or you got to take it all with you.
Now, look at a need for maybe a used refrigerator. Go get one and find its at location like in the basement or it's non-working but no clue because it's unplugged and/or located more as junk, metal scrap? Truthful condition, will it work?

I stay away from TV's in a big way. All too often when "curb alerted", damage can be had or thoughtful it will work as no protection is applied. There's always a good chance of one removed from a home may work, but again most CRT type are being tossed. These are heavy and troublesome for the real big units and forget the "projection types" as well. Heck, if it was good working unit, maybe the garage or "man den" until it finally gives out. Just give me a beat-up lawn mower to work on, -----Willy

I used Freecycle to move out a lot of stuff. If I had a peeve it was those that wanted me to deliver to their homes.
A real steal was one of those treadmills. Amazing that it was free yet it was the toughest item to give away. Sorry, I was too busy to deliver and setup the thing. I didn't tell them what I was thinking.

Perhaps no one wanted your treadmill but, around here, someone would want the metal to sell by the pound. It would depend on how trash collection is done in your area. Metal scrappers know the pickup days for the various neighborhoods and scour them the night before. Just leave it on the curb near your regular trash. The next morning, all that will remain is the flattened down grassy area where you left it.

But this was one of those over 500 buck treadmill things (I said I wouldn't tell how much) so it was a steal for free. Not a thing wrong with it except we use the elliptical and other things over that.
It was a strange experience where folk wanting free stuff also wanted free delivery, free install, free support, etc.
Again, I was a little put off by the experience as half the folk never said thank you.

because it was actually at a charity event that this happened. We had some stuff on a stage that was used but in perfect condition. You'd not know it wasn't new if the box seals weren't broken. We had a couple of people that, while helping themselves to armloads of the freebees, complained about the brand name...that they preferred those made by...well, I won't reveal that part. My jaw dropped so hard I loosened a couple of teeth.

I'll pick up dirt or so-called project left overs from a yard. They say they'll help me load the truck sometimes they do and others don't or always find a reason NOT to. I use the dirt to place in low laying areas of the property to prevent water stand-off and such. It's free and all but it's work loading that truck(p/u) if it's a yard or more. At least at times, I get a lemonade or cool drink, not that I ask but it's nice. -----Willy
