he wouldn't be around to see if his prediction would come true?

He wanted to waste (and that's the correct word) even one minute of the last years of his life ranting about Obama.

he sought alternative therapy. Considering how many don't survive under the conventional therapy, I don't find that so strange. My mother had pancreatic cancer and survived. She had the operation same as him. At my urging she refused radiation and chemo, I think same as he. She never had a recurrence, seems they got it all and she lived another 16 years, dying from a stroke instead.

I don't know the site or how much is trustworthy but it would seem that Steve Jobs was trying to be helpful to the president as he'd apparently given huge sums to the DNC prior to Obama's election.

Isn't the first time he's done that.

and let him know that he failed to mention that the president's stimulus packages were responsible for the upturn. Glad you caught his omission.

cannot be proven or dis-proven. Even the article mentions that

"A return to the boom years of 17 million annual sales, however, will not happen any time soon."

and I don't recall any stimulus being introduced to bring those years about. While it's good news for now and no reason to look for a black cloud, I think it would be wrong to consider that the auto industry wouldn't rebound on its own. Anyone could just as easily say that the problems they were bailed out of were probably at least partially caused by government interference and policy. If such is true, we can't take pride in fixing what we broke ourselves.

The Detroit iron was, by Japanese and German standards, junk. It's too bad because the first offerings from Japan were not that good. Their selling point was that they were inexpensive and easy on fuel. Their bodies rusted worse than the American cars but people loved them anyway. The VW bug was one of the first to capture the US manufacturers with their pants down. It was inexpensive and of reasonable quality in fit and finish. While American manufacturer's were busy making cars to beat each other in drag races from traffic light to traffic light, the bug overtook them in the sales rooms. The Japanese went to work improving their steel paint and corrosion protection and their cars now outlasted the payment books. American manufacturers were more interested in developing ad campaigns than quality vehicles. They may be doing better now but it takes time to build a good reputation. It will take years of proven performance in the area of quality to make them dominant again.

The Corolla and Chevy Geo Prism were supposed to be essentially the same cars coming off the same lines in California. Why I see so few old Prisms and so many old Corollas still around is a mystery. The Prisms I do see don't appear to have worn as well as the Corollas either. I suppose this could be a product of who buys what brand. Of course my evaluation is only subjective but I suspect there were different standards of quality applied when the line shifted from one brand to the other when these were made. Perhaps our resident Toyota guy has more insight on this one.

folks looking for quality but who wanted to buy American bought Prisms thinking they were just cheaper Corollas which would last forever without taking care of them. Those who paid slightly more for the Toyota brand were more inclined to give them a due bit maintenance and maybe even wash them once in a while. Hence the difference in condition after 10 or so years.

Since it was a central part of his 2008 campaign, the Republicans can make hay out of the fact that it got tossed (if it does). On the other hand, the Republicans have been running on a platform of repealing it, so if that gets done for them then that's one less issue for them to run on.

A lot may depend on how the Administration responds if it gets tossed.

.....getting the economy moving in the right direction, and the stimulus was a first step towards that. If you look at the figures, things ARE better. Not great, not as good as they were before the crash of '08, but better than they were when he took office. In fact unemployment numbers just released showed the lowest number of new claims in around 4 years. The stock market just had one of its best quarters ever. The big 3 US automakers are succeeding again.

Whether you like it or not (and I'm sure you won't admit it anyway), things are improving.

the economy going? You have been quick to critize everything Obama has done. What is your magic bullet?
