Even though SOPA and PIPA are proposed American laws, their impact is
unlikely to be contained within U.S. borders. As Canadian copyright
expert Michael Geist points out, SOPA defines "domestic" IP addresses -
the numeric code by which websites are listed - as an address for which
the allocating entity is located within the United States. However, the
American Registry for Internet Numbers, which is located in the U.S.,
doesn't just assign IP addresses domestically - it's also in charge of
allocating addresses to Canada and 20 Caribbean nations. That means,
American legislation designed to alter the domestic Internet landscape
could end up altering much more.

Seems if you are willing to read it in Spanish while in the USA, you can access it. Only the English speaking residents of the States are blocked. I think we should spread the word about the discriminatory policies of Wikipedia.

Seems they are using a javascript to block the site which is easily defeated. If anyone wants to read something at Wikipedia today, in English, just turn off your browser's javascript while visiting the site.

Javascript is needed here at CNET forums however, so turn it back on before trying to add any message to the forum.

Another option is to use NoScript to block the particular script Wikipedia is running.

Or you can block this image.

You could use NoScript (or YesScript) to selectively block scripts from Wikipedia today.

Alternatively, for Firefox/Chrome users, use Stylish to apply your own CSS to Wikipedia.org, which restores content without disabling functionality:
#mw-page-base, #mw-head-base, #content, #mw-head, #mw-panel, #footer {display:block !important;}
#mw-sopaOverlay {display:none !important;}

...that's the wikipedia way. Oh, also heard if you hit the Escape key before the blackout screen pops up, it will leave the page clear to read. Of course have to do that for each page accessed there.

You believe their claim that the one day blackout is a protest stance is false?

Shrug, it's their site, if they want to blank US site is protest of a proposed US law, what is more American than protests?
