Speakeasy forum: Poll: Are you dressing up for Halloween?

I believe it is only Americans who dress up for everything, have different shirts for everything etc. To me it is just another marketing gimmick to get people to buy more.

I personally dont have the slightest interest in Halloween and certainly would not dress up for it. Yes I am too old for it. I have been too old for it since I was about 12 years old.

My youngest was born within a couple weeks of Halloween so the two have merged for him!

This year he us going as Stein (from Soul Eater). A unique costume among his friends,

Myself...I'll be giving out candy at the door

IF the kids get through the razor wire and past the guard dogs

I end up eating it...I haven't had a kid at the door in 3 years. They don't hang around the area...too far between houses.

Not buying any this year. I don't want the temptation sitting there.

...I'm an old goth, and can just dress as myself. OK, maybe I'll add a little corpse makeup for the occassion; haven't decided yet.

Halloween - or Samhain - is an age old European pagan festival. It was imported to the U.S., where it was somehow mixed up with the Mexican 'Dia de los Muertos' and commercialized. It was then exported back to Europe. In Norway, we celebrate Halloween, but the American commercialism is toned down. OK, so we buy more candy on Halloween, and maybe a little more weird makeup, but the effect on the economy is nil.
