I got a story for ya. For some reason the niche I have

slotted into up here is the niche I tended to occupy in the States, meaning upper middle class. It's the class I came from, and it's the class whose conversation isn't brought to a halt by my occasional use of $5.00 words (that was Britain).
A friend of a friend from old Toronto money, as his second marriage, married a Quebec Anglo of roughly the same age, and possibly even greater wealth. They're a lovely couple and I enjoy their company. Well I just heard second hand that when they visited the in-laws last year at their spectacular cottage in Quebec, that all went swimmingly until they were all ready to leave, at which point they were presented with the bill. Now let's understand this, they were at a private cottage that had belonged to the wife's family for generations, they were *invited* guests not to mention daughter and son-in-law, and they were presented with a bill for every meal they ate, and every drink they drank.
My jaw hits the floor every time I think of this. Sounds like John D. Rockefeller or one of his ilk who used to do the same thing.
Ah, life. Ain't it peculiar?
