There's nothing like it with a good cup of coffee during the season it's available. Just got back from the local World Market in the campus area with a bag of treasure.

Stollen!

and it ranks right up there with fruitcake as a long family tradition. It's almost as durable too. happy

Except for the one I tried baking myself quite a few years ago.:-( It turned out to be much too dry. It also did not rise properly, maybe the fault of the yeast. As I recall, my recipe asked for almond flavoring.

However, we were in later years given one as a gift, and it was wonderful!!!!

Yesterday I bought chocolate covered cherries for Christmas. That is the only time of year I do. That comes from years ago when Christmas was the only time of year they were available. (Just like those nice big California navel oranges and big red delicious apples.)

Each person got a plate with "candy, fruit and nuts". Woe betide anybody tried to get something from another's plate. I continued that tradition.

I reckon kids don't ask Santa for "candy, fruit, and nuts" any more. sad
