Energy Drinks

What are your thoughts on energy drinks? Do they work? Do you have a favorite, and if yes why is it your favorite? Or do you think it's just another way to make more money?

Coffee is my energy drink in the mornings.
Energy drinks are nothing but sugar and caffeine repackaged as something "healthy" for the fitness-minded, health-conscious, or those that aspire to be

I had my first red bull this weekend. Me on any sort of caffiene is kind of a scary thought b/c I already talk about a mile a minute, but I finally caved and had one one night when I was wiped but needed to rally. It was ok, I'm not a coffee drinker or anything so it definitely boosted me. I think it depends on what your tolerance is for caffiene...
It is also somewhat sketchy that a lot of these drinks are banned in European countries...what do they know that we don't???!

a study by the French Scientific Committee on Human Nutrition found that Red Bull contained excessive caffeine. The committee also raised concerns about the drink's other ingredients - taurine, an amino acid the company claims can "kick-start" the metabolism - and glucuronolactone, a carbohydrate.
France has refused to authorise its sale, along with other vitamin-fortified foods such as Danone yoghurt and Kellogg's cereals.
One can of Red Bull contains 80mg of caffeine - equivalent to one cup of coffee. Three years ago, Ross Cooney, 18, from Ireland, died after he shared four cans of Red Bull and played in a basketball match. An inquest into his death ruled that he died from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

Early pick-me-ups had as their effective ingredient caffeine.
Now there are energy drinks for athletes. I did a google search, and found these (which I did not read), but some of the subject lines look iffy.
