Word 2000 won't start

Hi.

I have developed a problem with MS Word 2000...when I launch, I get the intro screen and then nothing, the prog just hangs. Nothing responds, there are no error messages and I have to hit the restart button on my PC to quit. Even 'ctrl/ alt/ del' gives no response.

I can't think of anything I have installed/ uninstalled recently which may have caused this. Word worked a few days ago, now nothing. I have tried uninstalling/ reinstalling...no joy.

My OS is ME (I have also system-restored...still no joy). Thankyou in advance for any advice...I'm tearing my hair out!

Delete normal.dot

Using Windows Explorer, find all occurences of normal.dot and rename or delete them. Then try Word again.

Same Problem with MS Word 2003

I have the same problem with MS Word 2003. I search for normal.dot file and delete and even tried renaming. Once i launch MS word it works, but if I re-launch it hangs again, and as I explore, MS Word, it re-generated another normal.dot file. Please help!!! Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem as you, and I've tried almost anything. I'm going to uninstall Office, do a repair install of XP, install Office again, and I'll see if that helps.

After spending the better part of the day trying to repair and reinstall my MS Office 2000 installation, I came across this nugget. Deleted normal.dot and voila -Word is back to normal!!!! Many thanks.
